Aurora R8 would like to provide families and our community with an update regarding the High School varsity football program and what to expect moving forward.

The varsity football game scheduled for Friday, September 18, against Nevada has been canceled. As a result, activities associated with Friday night’s game, including band and tailgating activities, will also be postponed.

Today, Aurora High School held a meeting with all high school students interested in participating in the football program. We are encouraged by the opportunity to bring our students together, move forward as a team, and continue building the program. Practices will continue as the team prepares for the scheduled September 25 game against Monett.

As the program moves forward, Broc Wolfe, who has been serving as Defensive Coordinator, will assume the role of Head Coach.

Prior to the September 25 game, the program will be reassessed to determine the team’s ability to safely and successfully compete. Families and the community will be updated as soon as additional information is available.

Mini Cheer Camp participants who were scheduled to perform Friday evening will now perform during halftime of the October 23 varsity football game. We appreciate the flexibility of our Mini Cheer families and look forward to recognizing these young Houn Dawgs later this season.

We understand that changes during a season can create questions and uncertainty for our students, families, and community. At the same time, we are optimistic about the path forward. Our focus is on providing stability and support for our student-athletes and giving them the opportunity to come together, work hard, and continue representing Aurora R8 with pride.
