The Aurora High School enrolls approximately 600 students in grades 9 through 12. Aurora students consistently score above state and national averages on college entrance exams and at or above state averages on standardized tests.
Since its founding in the 1870’s, the Aurora School R-VIII District has established a proud heritage of service to its community.
The school’s greatest asset is a caring and dedicated staff. Most of the staff are influential members in the community, and leaders in professional associations. The Aurora Education Association provides up to $5,000 in scholarships annually to Aurora graduates pursuing teaching degrees in Missouri colleges and universities.
At the Aurora High School, over 100 units of credit are offered in a broad variety of subjects. Students can graduate with as many as 30 hours of college credit if they take advantage of the Dual Credit offerings and direct ITV college courses that are offered. Vocational courses are taught on campus and at the Southwest Career Center in Monett. Supervised work-study and career exploration programs involve area employers in providing on-site work experience for our students. Special services are provided for those with individualized education plans (IEPS) and Pathways program for at-risk students.
The A+ Schools program provides applied academic and vocational experiences for Aurora students. Weighted classes reward students who take more challenging coursework, and seniors can earn college credit through a variety of dual-credit courses.
The success of our athletes has built respect among area schools and pride in our community. The football “Houn Dawgs” were 3A state champions in 1999, and many other athletic teams have had success at the state level in recent years. Over 20 clubs and organizations are offered at the high school and have a broad participation among students, with FFA, FBLA, Science Club, and Music Dept being some of the top choices.
